Are you looking for Card Toppers? Welcome to cardtoppers.net for all the information you need.
Card Toppers do exactly what their name suggests – they sit on top of the card! However do not think they are exclusively for card making, they are also work well on scrap book pages and in other paper crafts.
They are a ready made image or design which you can use to create a focal point on your handmade card. Where they are placed on the card will depend on your design but most card makers tend to place them in the center and work the design around them but they can be used just as an accent on your card. The card topper, itself, is often the only decoration on the card but they also work well with other card making embellishments.
Card Toppers come in all shapes and sizes, whatever the occasion there will be a suitable topper out there for you:
- Photographic Toppers: These are photographs which normally come on a themed sheet with a number of different sized toppers on them. The actual photographs are often foiled edged and come with matching word toppers. Many of the sheets are already die cut so all you need to do is pop the relevant one out and fix it to your card.
- Wedding Toppers: These can also be photographs but are often miniature items of things associated with wedding, for example bride and groom, wedding cake etc.
- Floral Toppers: These can be made from natural materials such as flowers and grasses, or be an arrangement of man made flowers.
- Fimo Toppers: Fimo is a type of modelling clay which can be modelled into miniature items such as Teddy Bears, birthday cards etc.
- Themed Toppers: For example Christmas Toppers, Easter Toppers, Halloween Toppers etc.
- Sentiment / Greetings Toppers: These are ideal for adding a sentiment to your work, especially if you are not adept at rubber stamping.
A lot of card toppers come on a backing paper which you simply peel back and then stick the topper directly onto the card. For those without backing paper, you can use flat toppers work well using double sided sticking tape, whilst other toppers can be fixed with silicone or other strong glue. The ease at which you can use the Toppers make them an ideal choice when you are mass producing cards – such as wedding card invitations, Christmas cards or for when you need to mass produce for sale.
Make Your Own Toppers:
You can make your own toppers from lots of different materials. All crafters have a “stash” of off cuts and left overs that they cannot bear to get rid of and there will be some perfect gems in there suitable for toppers. If you are stuck for ideas as to what to make just look around to see what is commercially available and then try to adapt the ideas to what you have available. If you use wire and beads on your Toppers you can make very individual and expensive looking ones.
Some crafters even turn their skills at making Toppers into a small business, selling online through their own websites or on Ebay.
Flower Soft is a card making embellishment which works well on Card Toppers – either ones you make yourself or ones produced by the Flowersoft company which show off the material. Flower Soft is glued onto the toppers and gives the impression of floral decoration.
For those crafters who own a die cutting machine, such as a Cricut or similar, making Card Toppers is relatively easy. There are numerous cartridges and dies available which work beautifully as elements on Card Toppers. In the case of the Cricut cartridges there are numerous themed designs on each one so from cartridge you could produce a variety of designs.
As well as making your own toppers , or buying one off commercial toppers you can also purchase digital toppers which you can print off yourself. Using a digital topper is a cost effective way of building up a library of designs which you can use over and over again on your cards. Purchasing a digital image can work really well if you mass produce cards for sale.
